The Technical Regulation of the Customs Union TR CU 012/2011 is a regulation that ensures the safe operation of equipment in explosive environments. Furthermore, technical regulations protect people and provide open transportation of specific equipment in the territories of EACU member countries.
What does TR CU 012/2011 cover?
THE TECHNICAL REGULATION COVERS THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT:
- Electrical equipment (electrical devices), including Ex-components
- Non-electrical equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres.
The identification features of devices subject to mandatory EAC certification are those that the manufacturer specifies as explosion-proof in the technical documentation and specific EX-marking.
NOT COVERED BY TR CU 012/2011:
- Home appliances such as gas stoves, heating boilers, ovens, and other explosion-risk devices (due to the potential fuel and gas leakage)
- All types of transport
- Products of a nuclear defense complex without explosion protection
- PPE and medical equipment for research
The marking indicates characteristics: levels and types of explosion protection used, groups of explosive atmospheres for potentially explosive atmospheres, and temperature class. These parameters are being examined during the compliance certification process with the requirements of TR CU 012/2011.
Equipment classification
To ensure the optimal selection and safe operation of certified equipment in explosive environments, they divided into classes according to explosion threat:
- 0, 1, 2 Class – caused by gas mixtures
- 20, 21, 22 Class – caused by dust mixtures
Equipment is classified depending on the scope of application:
- I – underground with above-ground structures with risk of combustible dust and mine gases formation
- II – gas mixtures
- III – places with combustible dust mixtures
According to the explosion protection level:
- “Ultra explosion-proof” (EPL Ma, Ga, Da) – ultra-high-security equipment that remains operational even in the case of possible failures
- “Explosion-proof” (EPL Mb, Gb, Db) – equipment for use in explosive environments of groups I and III, which functions as usual even with a single damage
- “Equipment protection by increased safety” (EPL Mc, Gc, Dc) – increased explosion protection, includes equipment of groups I and III that operates only in normal mode.

- Prepare a set of documentation
- Samples testing in an accredited laboratory
- In the case of serial deliveries, an analysis of the production is carried out.

TR CU 012/2011 ready-made conformity EAC Certificate of Compliance is issued when all successful implementation measures are conducted. The details of the EAC Certificate are added to the Unified Register of the Customs Union, hosted on the Federal Servicу Accreditation website.
